Vance Air Force Base is located in north central Oklahoma, about 3 miles south of Enid and about 80 miles northwest of Oklahoma City.

Vance opened in 1941 and soon gained its first official name: Enid Army Flying School. Today it is home to the Air Force's 71st Flying Training Wing, which conducts pilot training for the Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve, and several allied countries.
